Kenya's government has taken a significant step to ensure all students can sit for national exams by waiving fees for primary and secondary school exams.

According to the 2020 budget speech by Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani, the government will allocate Sh4 billion to cover the examination fees for all class eight and form four candidates.

Yattani also announced allocations to the education sector, including Sh6.3 billion for the construction and equipping of technical institutions and vocational training centres, and Sh800 million for the digital literacy programme and competency-based curriculum.

Additionally, the government has allocated Sh94.9 billion to support university education and Sh16.8 billion to the Higher Education Loans Board.

Yattani emphasized the government's commitment to sustained investments in the education sector, stating that Sh497.7 billion has been set aside to fund programmes in this sector, accounting for 26.7% of the budget.
