On June 8 and 9, the Premier League conducted its seventh round of COVID-19 tests, covering all 20 clubs and testing 1,213 players and staff. The results revealed a single positive case, bringing the total number of positive cases in the league to 14 since testing began on May 17 and 18.

Despite this development, the Premier League remains committed to resuming matches on June 17, with Aston Villa set to host Sheffield United at Villa Park and Manchester City facing Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.

Earlier, Stoke City manager Michael O'Neill tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the team to leave Manchester United's training ground before a behind-closed-doors friendly match on June 9. O'Neill had previously tested negative in five consecutive rounds of testing.

Stoke City confirmed O'Neill's positive test result in a statement, stating that he would undergo a period of isolation while continuing to communicate with his coaching staff and players virtually.
