June 11, 2020 - The Kenyan government has allocated Sh168 billion to security agencies in the new budget, a significant allocation aimed at bolstering the country's security.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani announced the allocation, stating that the funds will be distributed among the National Police Service, National Intelligence Service, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
Additionally, Sh3.4 billion has been allocated for medical insurance of security sector personnel, while Sh2.2 billion will be used for 'group person insurance' for both the National Police and Prison Services.
The allocation is part of the government's efforts to cushion the country's economy from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has infected 3,215 people and killed 92 others.
According to the Treasury CS, ensuring a safe environment is vital for the country's economic development, and the allocation will also be used to enhance national communication and surveillance systems and modernize police stations.
