On June 10, 2020, a vehicle circulated on social media as being used by armed robbers in the Kikuyu area. The vehicle, a Grey Toyota Noah, was trending on social media for most of Wednesday.
Police in Kikuyu intercepted the vehicle later in the day and arrested the occupants, a woman and two men. The public had been warned that the vehicle was being used by criminals who were armed and robbing people.
According to the police, the suspects claimed to be a couple and denied being involved in the robberies. The man, a surveyor by training, and the woman, a teacher by training, said they had hired the vehicle from a city trader but delayed to return it.
However, police are not convinced by their explanation and are tracing victims who may have been robbed. In a separate incident, a 60-year-old farmer in Murang'a reported being robbed by three men and a woman who offered him a lift from his home to Kenol town.
Police are investigating both incidents and are working to identify the perpetrators and recover any stolen property.
