June 11, 2020 - Nyamira county assembly has taken drastic measures to curb corruption by reshuffling senior officers who work in strategic positions. The move comes after some officers refused to be used in abetting corruption in their respective departments.
Among those reshuffled are Justus Okundi, the former human resource director who was moved to the library and legal research department, and Joyce Onyiengo, the former director at the department of procurement who was moved to the audit section. Alloys Ngeresa, her deputy, took over as the new director of procurement.
Michael Gisesa, an assistant clerk in the speaker's office, has been promoted to the human resource department. Gladys Obara, a former payroll officer, has been promoted to the position of deputy human resource department. Valarie Ogachi, a senior officer in the department of procurement, has been promoted to the position of deputy director in the same department.
The budget committee clerk Gilbert Onduko has been promoted to the position of county assembly payroll manager. Eric Machoka, initially an administrator, is the new officer in charge of transport.
The reshuffles come two months after some officers refused to pay members of the house leadership committee allowances for meetings they never attended. The acting clerk Duke Onyari downplayed allegations that the reshuffles were done as a punishment for refusing to be dragged into corrupt rings.
