On June 11, 2020, Kisumu County Government made a significant move in its efforts to address water shortages in the region by awarding a lucrative tender to Spectre International Company.

The company, owned by the family of opposition leader Raila Odinga, has been contracted to supply water to a section of Kisumu County, specifically Kisumu West, where a deficit in water supply has been a major concern.

According to reports by Daily Nation, the tendering process was a collaborative effort involving the County Government of Kisumu, Kiwasco, and the South Water Works Development Agency.

Water CEC Salmon Orimba wrote to Kiwasco Managing Director Thomas Odongo, stating that the proposal by Spectre International Limited would go a long way in augmenting the water supply in Kisumu West.

Orimba noted that the county had experienced challenges in meeting water demands in some parts of Kisumu County, and that Spectre's structures to extract water from Lake Victoria and treatment plant would be a significant asset in addressing this issue.
