June 11, 2020 - The ICT Authority has taken a significant step in supporting its DigiTalents by leveraging e-learning, a move that is expected to enhance their skills and career development. As the ICT Authority begins recruitment for its fifth cohort of DigiTalents, it is ramping up its support for the current cohort before they graduate this summer.

The ICT Authority has always been digitally advanced, managing and supporting its 400 DigiTalents through an online portal that matches them to internships, mentors, and innovations. However, it is the ability to provide online training that can make a significant difference, offering flexibility and cost-effectiveness during these times.

The ICT Authority has a long-standing partnership with Huawei, which has been instrumental in providing capacity building and training to the DigiTalents. In 2014 and 2017, the two organizations signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) that focused on capacity building as key components. With Huawei's East Africa Training Center in Kenya and over 30 universities and institutes certified as training partners, the organization was well-equipped to provide the latest cutting-edge training to the students.

Over 150 DigiTalents received training and will be certified free-of-charge, joining the more than 1,200 other students from the program in recent years to have been trained. The participants will have access to free Huawei learning resources and tools, including eNSP, Fusion Computer, and different AI models. They will also become Huawei Certified ICT Associates and will be fast-tracked for future job interviews and hiring by Huawei and its partners.

Philip Apodo Oyier, a university lecturer, facilitated the HCIA-AI certification training for the PDTP group, saying, 'It was an honor to facilitate HCIA-AI certification training for the PDTP group, my first experience with the program coordinated by Huawei and ICT Authority.' He praised the students' participation and engagement, saying, 'Most interns were active in class, asking questions and performing practical experiments as required.'
