Kenya: Man Charged with Assaulting Pregnant Wife Over Love Messages

Published on June 11, 2020, a businessman in Kenya was charged with assaulting his seven-month-pregnant wife after she inquired about love messages on his phone.

Abdul Rezak Rehan, the accused, allegedly beat up Uzma Igbal at their home in Akila, South 'C' Nairobi, on May 31, occasioning her actual bodily harm.

According to reports, Igbal had asked Rehan about the text messages she suspected were from another woman, prompting him to descend on her with blows and kick her belly before hitting her thigh with a blunt object.

Rehan denied the charges before senior principal magistrate Boaz Ombewa, who subsequently freed him on a Sh50,000 bond and an alternative cash bail of Sh20,000.

The case is set to be heard from July 8.
