Published on June 11, 2020, President Trump escalated his threat to take federal action against local protesters in Seattle, Washington.
Mr. Trump's late-night tweet on Wednesday targeted Mayor Jenny Durkan and Gov. Jay Inslee, warning them to 'take back your city NOW' or face federal intervention.
‘Take back your city NOW,’ Mr. Trump wrote in a tweet directed at Mayor Durkan and Gov. Inslee. ‘If you don’t do it, I will. This is not a game.’
Mr. Trump further described the protesters as 'Domestic Terrorists' who have taken over Seattle, run by 'Radical Left Democrats.'
However, the scene in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood was peaceful, with protesters holding discussions, listening to speeches and poetry, and children drawing with chalk on the street.
Police officers and protesters had previously clashed in the area following the killing of George Floyd, but on Wednesday, the city's fire chief wandered around the area talking with protesters about their needs and a collaborative path forward.
