Published on June 11, 2020, Johns Hopkins University reported that the US had reached a grim milestone in the coronavirus pandemic, with nearly 2 million cases and over 112,000 deaths.

The country's high number of reported deaths and diagnosed cases has made it the world's most affected nation by the pandemic.

According to the university's tally, the US has seen a steady increase in new cases, with around 20,000 reported every day.

Some states, such as Texas and North Carolina, have seen a surge in hospitalizations, with more Covid-19 patients admitted than a month ago.

Despite conducting half a million tests per day, the country's high infection rate remains a concern.

Researchers at the University of Massachusetts have predicted that the number of Covid-19 deaths in the US could approach 130,000 by July 4, Independence Day.
