On May 31, a violent altercation erupted at a residence in Akila, South 'C' Nairobi, between Abdul Rezak Rehan and his wife Uzma Igbal.
According to reports, Igbal had inquired about text messages she suspected were from another woman, prompting Rehan to physically assault her.
Rehan allegedly kicked her in the belly and hit her thigh with a blunt object, causing her actual bodily harm.
After the assault, Rehan left Igbal in the house, and she was later rushed to a hospital by her parents.
Abdul Rezak Rehan was subsequently charged at Kibera law courts and denied the allegations before senior principal magistrate Boaz Ombewa.
On June 11, 2020, the magistrate granted Rehan a Sh50,000 bond and an alternative cash bail of Sh20,000, allowing him to be released from custody.
The case is set to resume on July 8.
