On May 15th, Safaricom introduced a new data bundle aimed at making YouTube more accessible to its subscribers. For just Kshs 10, customers can enjoy 80 megabytes of data, valid for use on YouTube only.

This initiative, a partnership between Safaricom and Google, aims to ensure that no one is left behind by the accelerated digital transformation brought about by social distancing amidst the ongoing pandemic.

The data bundle is only available for 90 days, from May 15th to August 13th. First-time subscribers of the new YouTube bundle won't be charged on the first day.

According to Safaricom, the 80 megabytes of data offered are enough for 'up to 30 minutes of standard definition streaming and up to an hour of low definition streaming.'

Subscribers can access the new YouTube data bundle by dialing 544#. For an additional Kshs 10, they can get 200 megabytes of data for use on YouTube only.

This move is part of Safaricom's efforts to ease the burden of working and schooling from home, as well as staying entertained, in the wake of reduced movement due to COVID-19 measures.
