On June 10, 2020, former Kenyan international Edwin Odipo, now a lecturer at Shorter University in Georgia, USA, began efforts to secure the release of his former teammate Crispin 'Alphy' Olando from a US prison.

Olando, who moved to the US in 2013, was arrested by police over his immigration documentation and has been held at the Jackson Parish Correctional Centre in Louisiana since March 18, 2020.

According to Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo, Olando's former coach at Tusker FC in 2011, Odipo is working with other Kenyans and authorities to secure Olando's release. 'He has been detained because his papers were not right, but we hope they are going to solve the issue,' Omollo said.

As reported by Diasporamessenger.com, Olando is at risk of deportation unless he secures crucial documents to continue his stay in the US as an immigrant. He was booked and denied bond after it was established that he lacked the relevant papers.
