Manchester City's fate in European competition hangs in the balance as the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) prepares to announce its decision on their two-season ban.
On June 10, 2020, CAS announced that the decision would be issued during the first half of July, with the exact date to be communicated in advance.
The ban, which was handed down by UEFA, includes a 30 million euro fine for allegedly overstating sponsorship revenue to hide non-compliance with financial fair play rules between 2012 and 2016.
Manchester City has consistently denied the allegations, and a three-day hearing on the case was held via videoconference due to coronavirus restrictions.
The reigning English champions have a 12-point lead over Manchester United in the Premier League and are likely to secure qualification for next season's Champions League on the field.
However, if they are excluded from European competition, whoever finishes fifth in the Premier League will take their place in the Champions League.
UEFA plans to complete this season's European competitions in August, and Manchester City will be able to complete their campaign in the 2019/20 Champions League regardless of the outcome.
