June 10, 2020 - The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has commenced an investigation into corruption allegations against Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, who was recently impeached by the county assembly.

According to EACC Central Regional Manager Charles Rasungu, the probe will focus on several tenders allegedly awarded by the impeached governor, including one favoring Velocity Partners Limited.

Additionally, the EACC is investigating claims that Ksh. 10 million were paid for Governor Waiguru's trips, which allegedly did not occur or were not official.

The investigation has been extended to 38 other officers from the county, who are expected to record statements soon.

Any person involved in the probe may be requested to visit EACC offices for questioning, the national agency stated.

The EACC has also clarified that they may not reveal a specific timeline for the probe, as the matter is being handled on a priority basis.
