On June 10, 2020, a bitter dispute erupted between ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and Lugari MP Ayub Savula over the leadership of the Amani National Congress (ANC) party.

According to a demand letter sent by Sifuna's lawyers, Savula had claimed that Sifuna had approached him with a proposal to lead a takeover of ANC from Musalia Mudavadi, a claim Sifuna denies as false and malicious.

By refusing to retract his statement, Savula has left Sifuna with no choice but to take legal action, with the ODM official warning that he will deal with the matter squarely in court.

When reached for comment, Savula confirmed that he had received the demand letter and dared Sifuna to proceed with court action, promising to prove his claims.

"The said words are calculated to disparage our client. As a consequence of the publication of your reckless and malicious utterances our client has been greatly injured in his character, credit and reputation," the demand letter reads.
