On June 10, 2020, Kenya marked a significant milestone in its fight against COVID-19, with the highest single-day recovery rate recorded in the country.
According to the Ministry of Health, 175 patients were discharged after fully recovering from the virus within a period of 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries since April 1 to 1,048.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman attributed the increased number of recoveries to the dedication and hard work of health workers who are on the frontline battling the coronavirus disease.
"We are delighted to announce that we have discharged the highest number of patients from our various health facilities after recovering. Our health workers' efforts and dedication have made it possible for this wonderful achievement," said Aman.
However, the number of COVID-19 cases in the country surpassed the 3,000-mark on the same day, with the Ministry of Health announcing 105 additional cases, bringing the total number of infections to 3,094.
The new cases included 96 Kenyans and nine foreigners, with the youngest patient being a 2-year-old and the oldest patient aged 77.
The cases were distributed across various counties, including Nairobi, Busia, Mombasa, Turkana, Migori, Kwale, Kiambu, Kilifi, Machakos, Taita Taveta, Uasin Gishu, Siaya, Kajiado, and Garissa.
Due to the increased number of cases, the Ministry of Health has rolled out home-based care protocols for COVID-19 patients, with community policy coordinators tasked with monitoring compliance for the home-based care program.
Unfortunately, the country's death toll rose to 89 after one more patient succumbed to the virus.
As of June 10, 2020, Kenya had tested a total of 102,956 samples.
