On June 10, 2020, the government initiated a process to reclaim 30 hectares of land in Nairobi City Park, which has been misused and neglected for decades.

Nairobi City Park, located in Nairobi's Parkland area, is one of Kenya's oldest urban gardens. However, it has been reduced to 60 hectares due to human and housing encroachment, pollution, poaching, and illegal logging.

Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko announced plans to transform the historic park into a modern city park. Upon completion, residents will be able to visit the park, relax, picnic, and take leisurely walks.

The proposed design includes environmental improvement, landscaping, and the creation of new facilities such as an amphitheater, swimming pool, football pitch, food courts, and jogging tracks.

The park will be managed by the Kenya Forest Service and will feature enhanced security measures, including fencing.
