On June 10, 2020, a case of alleged theft came to light in Buruburu, Kenya, where a domestic worker is accused of transferring Sh46,400 from his visually impaired employer's M-Pesa account without his knowledge.

The suspect, Moses Tsuma, allegedly sent the money to four different phone numbers, leaving his employer, Alfred Kimotho, in the dark.

According to Detective Corporal Thomas Lunani of the Buruburu Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the suspect had been helping Kimotho with M-Pesa transactions, which is unusual given the employer's blurred eyesight.

Lunani obtained orders to obtain certified copies of the registered owners of the phone numbers that received the cash from Safaricom Limited, with the assistance of senior resident magistrate Lewis Gatheru.
