On June 9, 2020, Kenya reported 127 new COVID-19 cases, marking a significant increase in the number of infections in the country.
Among the new cases was a three-week-old infant, highlighting the vulnerability of young children to the virus.
The Ministry of Health announced that the cases arose from 2,247 samples analyzed within 24 hours, with 124 Kenyans and three foreigners among the reported cases.
According to the Ministry, the cases were distributed across Nairobi (62), Mombasa (34), Busia (14), Machakos (4), Bungoma (3), Kwale (1), and Uasin Gishu (1).
Health Minister [no attribution] stated, "Of the new cases, the youngest is a 3-week-old infant and the oldest is 72 years old, with 84 of the cases being males and 33 females."
Notably, all cases reported in Bungoma and Busia were truck drivers.
The Ministry also announced that 72 health workers had contracted the virus from different environments since March, with 19 being managed at different health facilities and 53 having been discharged.
As of June 9, 2020, the total number of recoveries stood at 873, with 24 additional patients recovering, and fatalities stood at 88 after 3 more patients succumbed to the disease.
Kenya has tested 100,683 samples to date.
