Kenya's Covid-19 Recoveries Surpass 1,000 as 175 Patients Discharged

On June 10, 2020, Kenya recorded a significant milestone in its fight against Covid-19, with 175 recoveries in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of discharged patients to 1,048.

Health CAS Rashid Aman expressed delight at the highest number of patients discharged in a single 24-hour period, stating, 'We are delighted to inform you that we have discharged the highest number of patients in a single 24-hour period; we have discharged 175 patients from the various facilities who have recovered from the coronavirus disease.'

However, the country also witnessed 105 new cases, bringing the total number to 3,094. The new cases were out of 2,273 samples tested in the last 24 hours, with a total of 102,696 tests conducted to date.

Among the new cases, 96 were Kenyans, and nine were foreigners, with 77 males and 28 females. The cases were distributed across various counties, with Nairobi recording 43 cases, Busia 18, Mombasa 11, and Turkana seven.

Notably, all 18 cases in Busia were truck drivers, similar to the seven cases in Turkana. Health CAS Aman acknowledged the rising issue of truck drivers at border points, stating, 'As we can see, we are seeing the issue of truck drivers rising at the various border points. Particularly at Busia and Malaba. As a Ministry, we are working very closely with the County Government of Busia to provide them with the necessary support to address the situation.'
