With Manchester City's home match against Arsenal on June 17 looming large, Liverpool's fate is intricately tied to the outcome of their Merseyside rivals' fixture.
Should City drop points, Liverpool's victory at Goodison Park would catapult them to the top of the Premier League table, securing a first league title in 30 years.
However, concerns over coronavirus restrictions had initially raised the prospect of the match being played at a neutral venue, with Goodison Park situated less than a mile from Liverpool's Anfield stadium.
Following a meeting between the Liverpool City Council, police, clubs, and fans' groups on Wednesday, it was agreed to allow the match to proceed at Goodison Park, with the council's deputy mayor, Wendy Simon, stating that 'the considerable evidence and guidance provided by the government, Everton and Liverpool football clubs, public health colleagues and Merseyside Police will ensure that the outstanding fixtures for the 2019/20 Premier League season can be safely and securely played at both Goodison Park and Anfield.'
Liverpool has assured fans that further discussions this week will provide 'clear and regular updates throughout this process.'
Should City not drop points against Arsenal or Burnley in their first two games back, Liverpool's title hopes could be decided on home soil at Anfield against Crystal Palace on June 24.
