Public Service and Gender CS Margaret Kobia's recent statement on Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru's impeachment has sparked widespread criticism from Kenyans, who accuse her of double standards.
Published on June 10, 2020, Kobia expressed her disappointment over Waiguru's impeachment, stating that it was an indicator that some Kenyans do not value strong women leadership.
However, her remarks have been met with skepticism, particularly from Nakuru senator Susan Kihika, who pointed out Kobia's silence when she was ousted from the senate Majority Whip role by the ruling Jubilee party.
Reacting to Kobia's statement, Kihika suggested that the CS should be aware that women like herself and nominated MP Cecile Mbarire, who were also removed from their deputy majority whip roles, are also women.
“Wondering if a similar letter from @CSMargaretKobia for @CecilyMbarire and I got lost in the mail? Could the Ministry of Gender not be aware that we are women too? Cess, perhaps it’s time for you and I to send Kobia our naked pics then she might stand up for us against the bully too,” Kihika stated.
