This archive report was first published on 10 June 2020.

On a rainy day, the residents of Gichugu Constituency in Kirinyaga County were treated to an unusual spectacle. A group of eight people, allegedly mistreated by a family, began singing loudly outside the family's home.

The family, known for their strict rules, had reportedly set a turban on fire after the group's members were caught stealing.

Neighbour Bundi Muthike was the first to realize the situation was getting out of hand. He approached the group, who were singing and dancing in the rain, and asked them which form of punishment they were subjected to.

The group, however, began to beat the family members seriously, forcing their neighbour to intervene and call the police. The incident was reported at the Difathas police station.

As the situation escalated, the family members were arrested and taken away in a pickup truck.
