Unrealistic Expectations ¶
Society has a way of defining the 'ideal' African woman, with attributes and traits that determine her worth and deservingness of a man and a home.
But who gets to decide what makes a woman fully respected and her work acknowledged in society?
TV journalist Lilian Muli has shed light on the societal expectations placed on women, highlighting the double standards and biases that women face.
According to Lilian, divorced women are seen as unable to keep a man, while childless women are considered barren, and fertile women are labeled as lacking vision and self-control.
Single mothers are seen as 'wayward,' while financially independent women are labeled as 'spoilt, bossy, and lacking humility.'
Married women are expected to be submissive to their husbands, while women who stand up for themselves are seen as 'ungovernable.'
Even women who are victims of domestic abuse are blamed for their situation, with some being told that they 'don't know how to talk' or that they 'don't submit.'
These societal expectations are not only unfair but also damaging to women's self-esteem and confidence.
As Lilian Muli's expose goes viral, it's time to take a hard look at these expectations and challenge the biases that perpetuate them.
It's time to create a society that values and respects women for who they are, rather than trying to mold them into unrealistic ideals.
