June 10, 2020, marked a day of intense debate on social media after Gender CS Margaret Kobia released a statement defending Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru's impeachment.

Waiguru was impeached by 23 MCAs on Tuesday over gross violation of the constitution and misuse of office, with her fate now lying in the Senate.

However, Kenyans on Twitter (KoT) could not agree with Kobia's statement, telling her that Waiguru was not impeached because she is a woman but due to her incompetence.

LSK President Nelson Havi told Kobia that elected leaders are evaluated on their performance, not gender.

'Good morning Prof. The distinguished Governor was elected by popular vote; not affirmative action. Elected leaders are evaluated on meritocracy and performance,' Havi said in a statement shared on Twitter.

Other Kenyans also questioned Kobia's statement, pointing out that there have been other women leaders ejected from leadership, including Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika and Cecily Mbarire.

They asked why Kobia and her fellow women crusaders did not speak out about these ills when they occurred.
