June 10, 2020 - The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has distanced itself from claims that its party leader Raila Odinga is behind a plot to cause leadership wrangle in the Amani National Congress (ANC).
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna described the allegations as baseless and contemptible, saying they should be treated with the seriousness they deserve.
Speaking amid widening differences in the Musalia Mudavadi-led party, Sifuna said the party has no reason to plan a coup against ANC, as it has its own issues to address.
“Indeed, as the dominant political movement in Western Kenya, ODM has no compelling reason to plan a coup in Amani National Congress against Musalia Mudavadi. We reiterate that the stated policy of the ODM party is that of non-interference in internal workings of other political parties because as you all know we have issues of our own as we strive to perfect ourselves,” Sifuna said.
He added that the party has a pool of leadership talent, including those ready to continue the good work by Deputy President William Ruto, and that Ayub Savula is not even on their radar as a possible successor.
However, a section of ANC elected MPs dismissed ANC secretary general Godfrey Osotsi, claiming that the nominated MP is not a duly registered member of the Party.
