Published on June 10, 2020, a man linked to a motor vehicle theft syndicate in Nairobi is being held by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Sammy Karinga Mubea is detained at the Industrial Area police station in Nairobi.

He is accused of colluding with another suspect to defraud a woman of her car.

Gladys Njoka had advertised her car online and was contacted by Mubea's accomplice who expressed interest in buying the car.

After negotiations, the suspect agreed to buy the car at Sh590,000 and sent Mubea to confirm the car's condition.

However, the cheque sent by Johan Enterprises, which had been credited with the cash, bounced.

Corporal Joseph Kitaka of Makadara DCI offices said in an affidavit that Mubea and his accomplice switched off their phones and efforts to trace them have been futile.

Kitaka stated that preliminary investigations indicate Mubea is a member of a huge cartel involved in fraudulent dealings.
