On June 10, 2020, Nairobi News reported on an upcoming online DJ competition featuring 200 East African DJs, including popular Kenyan DJ Kalonje, real name George Waweru.
The competition aims to help DJs foster their talents and create income, as they have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Prince Otach, the event organiser, the pandemic has made it difficult for DJs to do what they love and earn a living.
"It has been a difficult time for the DJs. They cannot do what they love let alone creating income," said Otach.
The competition will be broadcast live on Facebook, allowing the audience to follow and vote for their favorite DJs.
"I see most DJs refer to themselves as the best in Kenya or even the number one DJ. We now have an opportunity to now know who is the best among them all," said Otach.
Other notable DJs participating in the competition include DJ Brownskin, Tanzania's DJ Ommy, and Embu's DJ Caaril.
