Under the banner of Nyalenda Young Turks, a group of 25 college students from Kisumu's slums have been educating children on Covid-19 safety and hygiene since schools closed due to the pandemic.

On a Sunday morning, 22-year-old Helen Adhiambo, a third-year student of Agricultural Economics at Kibabii University, is teaching children aged three to 12 about hand-washing, wearing face masks, and social distancing through songs and dance.

Adhiambo, who has been doing this for two months, said she felt the need to engage in something to keep her busy during the pandemic.

According to Victor Elvis, the group's chairman, the students came together to educate children on Covid-19, as many campaigns target adults, leaving children at high risk of contracting the virus.

The group has undergone basic training on Covid-19 and emergency responses conducted by the Kenya Red Cross and has been traversing slums, joining children in their playgrounds to sensitize them.
