On June 8, 2020, Ndhiwa MP Martin Owino distributed food to vulnerable families in his constituency at Kobodo trading centre.

He expressed concerns over the tendency of some governors in the region to use Covid-19 funds in recurrent expenditures, citing the poor state of health facilities in the region.

Owino argued that spending such money on recurrent expenditure would make no impact in fighting the virus, as many health facilities in Nyanza counties are wanting.

He cited Siaya county, which has only 10 isolation beds for Covid-19 patients, despite a daily rise in coronavirus cases.

Speaking at the event, Owino said, "Many people are suffering in Nyanza and cannot access medical care due to poor infrastructure and lack of essential commodities in most health facilities. Recurrent expenditure will not improve our health facilities."

He urged governors to channel the money towards development to improve health facilities and make them accessible.

During the function, Owino distributed maize, rice, beans, bread, milk, and soap to over 2,000 people, including those with disabilities and the vulnerable.
