According to Red Cross official Sofia Tuwei, the building, known as Tebsview Building, came down shortly after 7:30 pm.
Rescue operations were underway, but the exact number of those trapped inside the ill-fated building could not be confirmed immediately.
Shadrach Ngeno described the scene as chaotic, with people trapped in the rubble calling out for help.
A distressed woman was heard calling for rescue for her two children trapped underneath the rubble.
Reports suggest that poor workmanship led to the collapse of the building.
