Published on June 9, 2020, the French government had announced that football could not restart due to the coronavirus pandemic.
France's highest administrative court has made a significant ruling in the French football season, blocking the relegation of Amiens and Toulouse from Ligue 1.
The Council of State judge validated the end of the season and the standings but suspended relegation, stating that the decision to proceed to final standings in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 does not necessarily lead to relegation or promotion.
Amiens and Toulouse had argued that their relegation was 'unjust and arbitrary', while Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas had been a leading voice against the decision to end the season early.
Paris Saint-Germain were declared champions for the seventh time in eight years, while Lyon were left seventh in the table and outside the European qualification places.
The league ranked teams by the ratio of points won to games played, but this did not change any of the placings in the final table.
Toulouse, who were bottom for many months, were 14 points from potential safety, while Amiens were 10 points better off but still four points away from a play-off spot.
