On June 9, 2020, a woman from Tharaka Nithi County was brutally attacked by her husband, who sprayed pepper on her private parts and sealed them with super glue.

Thanks to the efforts of the Kenya Men Empowerment Network (KEMEN), an organization of Kenyan men living in America, the woman, Charity Wairimu, has received a donation of Sh46,000 to cater for her medical expenses.

The donation was handed over to the family by a representative from The Standard, which first published Wairimu's plight.

Wairimu's husband has since been arrested and charged in court.

According to KEMEN spokesman Alfred Omondi, the group was touched by Wairimu's story and decided to raise money to help her with her medical appeal.

"We decided to raise whatever little that we had so that she can get medication. We are glad that she is now responding well to treatment," Omondi said.

Wairimu expressed her gratitude to the organization, saying the assistance had come in at a critical time when she was struggling to afford medication.

"I want to thank our friends abroad as the funds will assist me to buy some medication that I was lacking," she noted.

Wairimu is currently recuperating at her home in Nyandarua County.
