On June 9, 2020, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru became the first governor to be impeached in Kenya's history, after 23 out of 33 MCAs voted in favor of the impeachment motion.

The impeachment motion was passed due to allegations of massive corruption and misuse of office during Waiguru's three-year tenure as governor.

Despite Deputy President William Ruto's alleged involvement in the impeachment, sources close to the matter have revealed that Ruto had no direct involvement in the dramatic event.

Waiguru's impeachment is seen as a victory for the MCAs, who have been vocal about her poor performance record. According to those on the ground, Waiguru's governance has been 'awful.'

However, the name of William Ruto is expected to be heavily mentioned during the impeachment motion's presentation in the Senate, with some senators suggesting that Ruto is punishing Waiguru after falling out with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Despite these claims, it remains to be seen whether the Senate will vote to save Waiguru, or if the impeachment will stand.
