Kenya has confirmed 127 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of positive cases to 2,989. The new cases were identified from a test pool of 2,247 samples in the last 24 hours.
Out of the new cases, 124 are Kenyans and three are foreigners. The youngest case is a 3-week-old baby, while the oldest is a 72-year-old.
The cases are distributed across various counties, with Nairobi recording 62 cases, Mombasa 34, Busia 14, Machakos 4, Bungoma 3, Kwale and Uasin Gishu 1 each.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman has warned against stigmatisation, saying it poses a threat to everyone. He urged Kenyans not to tolerate the act towards those who have tested positive for Covid-19.
Dr. Aman also announced that 72 medical workers have contracted the virus. Additionally, 24 persons have been discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 873. The number of fatalities has risen to 88 after three people succumbed to the disease.
The government is working on streamlining the issue of testing among truck drivers. Dr. Aman said that truck drivers will be required to be tested 48 hours before they depart and issued with a certificate. The government also plans to set up testing facilities along the border points and offer the service at the shortest turn-around time.
