Published on June 9, 2020, Safaricom, Kenya's largest telco by market share, has taken proactive measures to safeguard the health and wellbeing of its staff and customers.

The company has closed four shops for cleaning, fumigation, and sanitization, with the affected locations being Nyali and Rex House in Mombasa, as well as Thika and Lavington Mall within the Nairobi Metropolitan Area.

According to Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa, the company will be undertaking such measures regularly to its shops and customer facilities to prioritize the health and wellbeing of its staff and customers.

"We will be undertaking such measures regularly to our shops and customer facilities to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our staff and customers as this remains our topmost priority even as we continue to help the country in managing the COVID-19 Crisis," Ndegwa said in a statement.

The affected shops are expected to reopen on Thursday, June 11, with Safaricom advising customers to seek services from nearby shops in the meantime.

This move comes after Safaricom was forced to close its Thika Road Mall (TRM) in Nairobi on May 31, 2020, following a staff member testing positive for Coronavirus.
