Published on June 9, 2020, a staffer at the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretariat has tested positive for Covid-19.
Ben Musungu, the director of youth affairs, is currently admitted at the intensive care unit of the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.
According to ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, Musungu is receiving the best possible medication and is responding well to treatment.
‘We would like to urge anyone who interacted with Mr Musungu at least 14 days before June 3 to volunteer for testing to avoid further spread of the disease,’ Sifuna said at a press conference at the party headquarters in Nairobi.
Musungu, who contested for the Kibra by-election after the death of Ken Okoth in July last year, lost in the ODM primaries to Imran Okoth.
After developing fever and severe body pains last week, Musungu sought medical attention at the Aga Khan University Hospital’s satellite clinic at Prestige Plaza on Ngong Road.
He was referred to the main hospital in Parklands where he was first diagnosed with pneumonia, and later developed complications that led to a Covid-19 diagnosis.
As a precautionary measure, the party has arranged for enhanced measures, including fumigation of the entire office.
