On June 8, 2020, Lugari MP Ayub Savula made sensational claims about ODM's alleged plan to hijack ANC party, the Ford Kenya way, with a promise of supporting him in his quest for the Kakamega gubernatorial race.

According to Savula, Raila Odinga, through James Orengo and Edwin Sifuna, approached him on several occasions to topple Musalia as the ANC party leader, citing Musalia's hesitation to join a coalition government with Uhuru against the interests of Western people.

Speaking to the media at his residence in Lugari, Savula alleged that Raila also accused Ford Kenya and ANC of working with Deputy President William Ruto, which they claimed would hinder the chances of a referendum.

These claims come barely days after the ouster of Moses Wetangula as Ford Kenya party leader, a move purportedly sponsored by Francis Atwoli.
