The appointment of Senator Samuel Poghisio as the new Senate Majority Leader has sparked hope for national unity, with Jubilee and Kanu parties in Mandera county welcoming the move.

According to Hussein Osman, the Kanu coordinator in Mandera county, the post-election pact between Jubilee and Kanu is a testament to President Uhuru Kenyatta's command of respect and following.

Osman noted that the deal is an indicator of Uhuru's commitment to national unity, and that other parties are willing to follow Kanu's footsteps ahead of the 2022 general elections.

He also dismissed concerns about the legitimacy of the post-poll agreement, stating that the Political Parties Dispute Resolution Tribunal will affirm the decision despite opposition from irked politicians.

“Politicians licking wounds of defeat are the ones opposing changes made in the senate and the Jubilee-Kanu partnership. They fear the political landslide that will displace them in the coming general election,” Osman added.

Osman also revealed that members from both parties will roll out grassroots meetings to popularise the deal once the COVID-19 pandemic is under control.
