World Bank Funds Mbale Road Upgrades

On June 8, 2020, Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo commissioned the rehabilitation of the Mbale-Tsimbalo-Munoywa road, funded by the World Bank through the Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP).

The project involves the upgrading of 2.8 kilometers of road to bitumen standards, with the work expected to be completed within six months.

Addressing residents, Governor Ottichilo expressed his gratitude to the World Bank for allocating development grants to his government.

"We applaud the World Bank through Kenya Urban Support Programme for gifting us with funds for face-lifting Mbale town and its environs," he said.

The governor expressed optimism that the upgraded transport and communication networks would soon attract local and external investors, making Mbale town an economic hub for the Western region.

He also urged families living along the road to consider investing in real estate business, as the area was expected to become a prime location.

The project is expected to benefit the local community, with the contractor, Tallon Africa Enterprise, employing both skilled and unskilled youth and women from the area.

The Deputy Governor, Dr. Patrick Saisi, and County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Planning, Lands and Housing, Paul Mbuni, accompanied the governor during the commissioning ceremony.
