On June 8, 2020, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi revealed the organization's plan to petition the Senate and National Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The move is in response to the President's repeated disobedience of court orders and violation of the Constitution, as stated by Havi during an exclusive interview.

According to Havi, President Kenyatta has vowed to defend the values of the Constitution, just like any other state officer, including the Chief Justice and advocates.

However, Havi noted that it has become the norm for the government to disobey court orders, suggesting that the Constitution is an inconvenience to them.

He further stated that it has been six months since Chief Justice David Maraga requested the swearing-in of 41 judges, but the President has taken no action.

LSK plans to submit a charge sheet to the members of the two houses, requiring them to respond within seven days with reasons why they should not be removed from the list.

After receiving the response, the members will be expected to appear before the council and the members, where they will be given an equal opportunity to defend themselves.
