June 9, 2020, marked a pivotal moment in the fight against racism in sport, with prominent athletes like Lewis Hamilton and Raheem Sterling using their platforms to speak out against the issue.

However, Sport England board member Chris Grant emphasized that it's not the responsibility of elite athletes to fix the problem, but rather the governing bodies.

Grant, a senior black administrator in British sport, called for a comprehensive study of the issue to understand its true extent and find effective solutions.

He expressed admiration for athletes like Raheem Sterling, Eniola Aluko, and Alice Dearing, who have spoken out against racism, but emphasized that their role is to speak out, not to fix the problem.

Grant proposed the establishment of a commission to investigate the historical roots of inequalities in sport and gather experiences from the grassroots level.

UK Sport chair Katherine Grainger acknowledged the existence of racial inequalities in sport and expressed a commitment to eradicating them, agreeing to meet with Grant to discuss the issue.
