On June 6, 2020, Ghana's National Communications Authority (NCA) announced plans to implement policies aimed at reducing MTN's dominance in the country's telecommunications market.
According to the NCA, MTN's share of mobile data subscriptions accounted for almost 70% of the market from January to March 2020. To address this, the regulator will implement measures such as a favorable connection rate for disadvantaged operators, floor and ceiling pricing on all minutes, data, text messages, and mobile money, and ensure that various operator vendors are not subject to exclusionary pricing or behavior.
MTN Ghana has stated that it had not yet received formal notification from the regulator and is awaiting it to assess the details.
