Published on June 8, 2020, Ms. Diana Ndinda's journey to find a Covid-19 testing facility in Nigeria has been a long and arduous one.
After sharing the news of her scheduled repatriation with her contact, Lanre, in Nigeria, they agreed to meet the next day at 10 am to visit Murtala Muhammed International Airport, where they hoped to be directed to a Covid-19 testing centre.
One of the requirements by Kenya Airways is that they get tested for the coronavirus before boarding the flight that will take them home on June 12.
However, their visit to the airport was met with frustration as they were sent to different desks and offices before finding some helpful information from the airport clinic.
The clinic informed them that they were not doing the test there, but rather referred them to a government clinic in downtown Lagos, where they might be able to get it.
Despite the challenges, Lanre and Ms. Ndinda made frantic calls to various contacts in hopes of finding a solution.
However, most of the calls didn't go through, and those that did were of no help, leaving them stuck in traffic for another 30 minutes before deciding to drive to Ikeja City Mall.
At the mall, they observed all possible hygiene measures, including temperature checks and hand sanitizing, before entering the building.
Despite the challenges, Ms. Ndinda remained hopeful that she would be able to find a testing facility and return home safely.
