On June 8, 2020, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman addressed the public during a daily briefing on the coronavirus update at Afya House.
According to Dr. Aman, the government will assess the homes where patients would be returning to, ensuring they have toilets and enough space to practice social distancing to prevent infecting others.
Dr. Aman emphasized the importance of confidence and caution when caring for someone with Covid-19 at home, to prevent the spread of the virus to other household members or the public.
As the number of infections rises, Dr. Aman noted that the government is also recording a high number of recoveries, which is a commendable sign that contracting the virus is not a death sentence.
Dr. Aman added that the government is recording more and more Covid-19 recoveries, indicating that early detection and proper care can lead to almost certain recovery.
He also highlighted the importance of appreciating that rising numbers of positive cases are a result of increased testing, and that this does not mean losing hope.
Dr. Aman praised the exceptional work of hospitals attending to positive cases, and the government's efforts to upgrade healthcare infrastructure and human resource capacities.
