On June 8, 2020, Kenya reported 95 new Covid-19 cases, with three community nurses from Nyeri Central among the infected.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman commended healthcare workers for their efforts in fighting the pandemic, acknowledging that they are at a higher risk of contracting the disease.
"I want to commend our healthcare workers in all cadres, who are doing a great job under very difficult circumstances. Our health care workers being the frontline soldiers in this fight, are at a greater risk of contracting the disease. These are the people putting their lives on the line to protect this nation. We should not take this for granted. We salute them," Dr. Aman said.
He emphasized the importance of recognizing the sacrifices made by healthcare workers and urged the public to display patriotism and compliance with containment measures to limit the spread of the virus.
Dr. Aman also reiterated the requirement for caregivers to wear N95 masks, citing new guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO) that recommend individuals above 60 years and caregivers attending to patients under home-based care to wear N95 masks at all times.
Today, Kenya has 2,862 confirmed Covid-19 cases, with 85 fatalities reported so far.
