Speaking in his office in Machakos, Governor Mutua emphasized the need for leaders to focus on development rather than politicking, saying, "The problem with our country is that the leadership spends much of the time setting citizens against each other at the expense of fixing problems facing the nation."

He also criticized the practice of using tribalism to divide Kenyans, saying, "Our colonialists used tribe to divide us so that they can rule us. This strategy has been employed by leaders who are obsessed with power to rally their communities around tribal lines at the expense of development."

Furthermore, Governor Mutua warned Kenyans to be cautious when electing leaders, stating, "I call on Kenyans to be careful about the kind of leaders they elect to political offices because it impacts on the results we will get."

Regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Mutua expressed concern about the rising numbers of cases in the country and the need for emergency meetings to address the situation. He also announced measures to prevent the spread of the virus, including restricting the movement of lorries transiting goods from Mombasa and requiring truckers to have testing results before entering the county.
