On June 8, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta's office received a petition from 126 Jubilee lawmakers seeking the removal of National Assembly Leader of Majority Aden Duale.
According to Majority Chief Whip Emmanuel Wangwe, the petition was forwarded to the President after consultations with party members.
Wangwe stated that Secretary-General Raphael Tuju would communicate the date of a Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group Meeting to discuss the issue.
Navakholo MP Kanini Kega spearheaded the collection of signatures from members dissatisfied with Duale's leadership and conduct.
Instead of facing a vote of no confidence, Kega urged Duale to resign, citing that the procedure for a vote did not require the blessing of the Jubilee Party leader.
However, Duale has dismissed the ouster plot, accusing Kega of extortion.
Two weeks prior, Elegeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika were removed from their positions as Leader of Majority and Chief Whip, respectively, due to their perceived loyalty to Deputy President William Ruto.
