Published on June 8, 2020, a total of 81 health workers in Kenya have contracted Covid-19, highlighting the risks faced by medical professionals during the pandemic.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary-General Dr Chibanzi Mwachonda revealed that 60% of the infections are directly related to the workplace.
Most of the health workers contracted the virus at quarantine centers and hospitals after coming into contact with infected patients.
The counties with the highest number of infected health workers are Mombasa with 41 cases, followed by Kiambu with four cases.
Other counties, including Machakos, Laikipia, and Kajiado, have each reported one case.
